Spring Break

To most, this seemed like a very spontaneous trip to Mexico and it was for the most part, but I can explain......We had been planning a family vacation to Mexico all year and wanted to go before Annabelle turned 2 so she would be free. Well, the end of March came and we decided it wasn't a good time to go. Matt had just started his business expansion adventure in January and it just didn't seem right to go with so much going on so we decided this wasn't the year for Mexico. April came and we were heading into spring break. We scheduled our basement to be drywalled starting on monday. They said it would take four days. On sunday I was joking around and told the kids to ask daddy if we could go somewhere warm for spring break since we had no plans. Matt looked at his upcoming week and said "well, I'm all caught up on my drawings, my dad can take any new calls that come in, let's look into it". So we got online on monday and read all about what's going on in Mexico and looked at prices. On tuesday the drywallers said they would be done by that evening two days early. So we booked our flights and hotel that afternoon. I spent all day packing and we drove to Denver tuesday night. We boarded the plane on Wednesday morning on our way to Mexico. Crazy I know. We had a great trip. Here's a "few" pictures of our vacation....

We thought hard about whether we should take Annabelle (she was now 2 and would cost $). We were concerned she wouldn't be old enough to really enjoy Mexico. We decided that it wouldn't be the same without her there, so we brought her along. We have since concluded that although she did have lots of fun, she probably would have had just as much fun at Nana and Papa's house and would have been much less sleep deprived. She didn't like being in the waves, but she did love running from them.

All three kids loved the ocean and running in the waves. It's amazing to us how warm the ocean water is there.

Annabelle and Cally loved collecting seashells.

My favorite time of the day is sun set. It's so beautiful and peaceful and warm and and and....

On our second day Annabelle made a friend, Lola the Chihuahua. They were friends at first sight and we enjoyed seeing Lola everyday at the beach.

The resort had a parate show and afterwards you could go up and talk to them and hold them.

Casey having seen daddy do it, was very brave and let one of them on his arm too.

This was probably the highlight of the week for everyone but Cally. She went down it once against her will with Matt and that was enough for her. We bribed her, pressured her, prodded her, and yet she wouldn't budge one bit. We asked the kids on the second day what they liked best so far. They all (even Cally) said the Alligator slide. I asked her why she wouldn't go down it again then and she said she just didn't want to get splashed in the face even though she was in the water, under water most of the time. I hope she keeps that resolve for when her friends are pressuring her to do wrong.

Cally, like her mom prefers not to get water up her nose.....

Casey was amazing. By the end of the week he was going down the slide by himself and swimming to the side by the stairs. He's a littel fish. Must get that from his dad. Though I must say he does at times make me nervous. He hasn't yet figured out how to come up for a breathe. He'll stay under water until he's about to drown and then come up gasping for air with a huge smile on his face and then go back down.
I was worried about my fair child getting burned so she wore a shirt most of the time. She has no fear like her little bro. She loved jumping off the side.
Second favorite thing to do was boogie boarding. Casey would take the board out first thing in the morning and ride the waves until he was exhausted. He loved it. Matt was helping him here but that was just the first day. After he figured it out he was off by himself.

I was happy Cally wasn't scared to boogie board. She too loved it if she could get the board away from Casey.
I love this picture of Annabelle. She looks so grown up.

This was where she prefered to be, watching the action.
We had fun building lots of sand castles which oftentimes got ruined by the waves...

Annabelle loved washing the sand off her feet.

Casey actually took naps. Annabelle even had to wake sleeping beauty up one afternoon....

Casey got chosen to swing at the pinata during one of the resort's activities. He didn't break it but had lots of fun trying to hit it.
Matt joined the men's competition which included a race to the pool (in the pool) and back. The winner got a free jet ski ride. He came in second and just got wet.
Annabelle loved going down the slide and we loved watching her face as she was going in the water. She'd come down, get all wet, and then ask "again, again" and point to the stairs.

Easter morning the kids found eggs around the hotel room.
We decided not to bring the kids easter baskets so we improvised with boxes that we left over from food we had boughten. Annabelle was disappointed she had to use the pancake box....
The last night is always bitter sweet, mostly bitter. We love Mexico and being warm (ahhhh warmth)!
